Caruso St John Architects

1999
Location: London, UK
Client: Tate
Project Status: Exhibition Design

This exhibition involved the reconfiguration of the Tate’s 1970s extension to accommodate the installation of 22 contemporary art works, which formed the first part of a biannual programme of contemporary British art. Caruso St John had a close collaboration with the exhibition’s curators from an early stage, developing and synthesising clear curatorial ambitions within a spatial and technical framework. The project involved the renovation of parts of the existing building - returning the legibility and coherence of the original design for this suite of galleries.
