Hospitalfield is awarded the 34th International Carlo Scarpa Prize for Gardens, 2025-2026, a prize awarded to a place with the capacity to transmit natural, historical and cultural values, devised and organised by the Fondazione Benetton Studi Ricerche, and named in honour of Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978), the architect and creator of gardens. There will be a public ceremony in Treviso to celebrate the prize.
Hospitalfield is an arts organisation in Arbroath, Scotland. Caruso St John has designed a masterplan for their site in 2015 and has since been working on various projects across the grounds. Landscape design is by Nigel Dunnett.
The main public events associated with the Carlo Scarpa Prize 2025-2026 will take place in Treviso on Saturday 9th May 2026, first with a public meeting dedicated to the place awarded the prize, in Palazzo Bomben between 10 and 1.30pm. In the afternoon, at 5pm in the Church of San Teonisto, the prize ceremony will see the seal designed by Carlo Scarpa, which has been the symbol of the prize since 1990, entrusted to Lucy Byatt, the director of Hospitalfield since 2012. The event will also feature the presentation of a book and the first public projection of a documentary film, both of which the Foundation has produced to illustrate the place its Committee has designated and the many themes it represents.

Phase 2 of our Masterplan for Hospitafields Arts, the Studios, have been shortlisted for the RIAS Awards in Scotland. This phase focuses on the more private areas of the site, creating studios and workshops with excellent access. Our Royal Belge project is praised for its adaptive reuse strategies, extending the life of a modernist icon. The jury will visit the projects in the coming month.
