Newport Street Gallery has won the 2016 Brick Development Association's Supreme Award, Best Public Building Award and Craftsmanship Award.

We would like to thank Northcot Brick, who developed the Newport Light and Newport Dark bricks for the project. Our contractors for the Newport Street Gallery, Grangewood Brickwork Services, won the craftsmanship Award and Specialist Brickwork Contractor of the Year Award.

The project on the Welfengarten in the Au-Haidhausen district of the city created 390 apartments for both private sale and social tenants, along with a crèche, kindergarten and retail.

Newport Street Gallery, the conversion of almost an entire street of listed industrial buildings in south London into a free public gallery for artist Damien Hirst’s private art collection, has won the coveted 2016 RIBA Stirling Prize for the UK’s best new building.

Newport Street Gallery has won a 2017 Schueco Excellence Award. We would like to thank specialist contractors KCC Architectural, who created and installed special glazing units for the project.

Caruso St John' Architects' projects for the Newport Street Gallery and the Lycée Hotelier de Lille have been nominated for the 2017 European Union Prize for Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award.

Newport Street Gallery is one of six buildings shortlisted for the 2016 Stirling Prize. The winning project will be announced this Thursday.

Newport Street Gallery has opened to the public. The new gallery will present exhibitions of works drawn from Damien Hirst’s extensive art collection and entry is free to the public. The gallery’s inaugural exhibition is Power Stations, a solo show of work by John Hoyland.

Planning application

Twentieth Century Theatre

Caruso St John have submitted a planning application for a new venue for classical music in west London. The project is to revive the Twentieth Century Theatre, a Grade II listed former music hall on Westbourne Grove in Notting Hill.

Project update

Office Building Zurich

Zurich, Switzerland

Caruso St John has received the building permit for the AXA Office building, located on Stampfenbachstrasse in central Zurich. The building, for multinational insurance company AXA, houses around 4,000 square meters of office space over seven floors.

Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2023, with a façade mock-up already completed for quality control of the materials and joints.

Swiss Life Arena

18th October 2022

The Zurich Lions Ice Hockey team will play their inaugural match tonight at the newly opened Swiss Life Arena. Located in Altstetten, at the north-western edge of the city, the 12,000 seat, 70,000m² arena is Caruso St John's largest building to date.

Project Update

Royale Belge

Brussels, Belgium

Renovation work continues at the Royale Belge in Brussels. The façade works have been completed, reinstating the original building’s iconic golden glass. The tower’s office floors and hotel rooms are nearing completion, with tenant fit-outs underway. Structural works for a new atrium have been completed, with two curved stairs connecting multiple functions across three floors. The atrium is naturally lit from above, with a large rooflight overhead that completes the pattern of the original diagrid roof.
