Deutsche Werkstätten Campus
Hellerau, Dresden, Germany 2019–2021
Client: Deutsche Werkstätten Competition, first prize
Caruso St John won the competition for a masterplan for the Gartenstadt Hellerau campus of furniture company Deutsche Werkstätten in northern Dresden.
The masterplan comprises three new structures, which replace existing industrial sheds adjacent to the company’s historic factory buildings. At the heart of the development is a new ‘garden building’ that provides workspace and amenities for the company’s staff as well as a flexible gallery space for exhibitions and events. The building is conceived as a freestanding pavilion within the restructured landscape of the site.
