MACBA
Barcelona, Spain 2021
Client: MACBA Competition entry
The submission for the extension and renovation of the MACBA was put together by the two practices Caruso St John Architects, in London and Bosch Cap de Ferro, in Girona. The intention would be that, if their submission was successful, the two practices would collaborate on the project, with Caruso St John leading the design and working together with Bosch Cap de Ferro on the execution.
Caruso St John Architects have been in practice for 30 years, and have an international reputation for their work in the field of Museums and Galleries, working with existing buildings and new institutions. The practice has always had an international outlook, and have a long-standing connection to Barcelona and Catalonia. Caruso St John published their early projects in the influential architectural magazine Quaderns in the early 90s, which led to many visits and contacts with the Spanish architectural community. They have been professional friends with Bosch Cap de Ferro since the two practices exhibited together at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2012, and have followed the development of their sensitive work in housing and designing public spaces since then. They would enjoy this opportunity to collaborate on a project where together they would bring considerable experience to this very interesting and complex situation.
